Brigaldara Valpolicella DOC 2016

Regular price: $16.99

Sale Price: $12.99

The principal grapes in Valpolicella are largely unknown beyond Verona: Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella and although the quantity of wine produced in the area is 2nd only to Tuscany, many don’t know (or appreciate) the virtues of Valpolicella. This is a wine of grace rather than power, with impeccable balance.

The second most planted red grape in Austria (after Zweigelt), Blaufränkisch has been around since about the 10th century. This is a great example from one of the best young winemaker’s in Austria. Bright and aromatic, with loads of dark berry flavors, it’s also supple and spicy.

Domaine de la Tour du Bief, Moulin-au-Vent 2014

100% Gamay from the quintessential cru in Beaujolais. The wine is full and round with black raspberry and anise dancing with earthy aromas and flavors. This is a perfect wine on the ‘Goldilocks’ scale…a 3! Not too big, not too all…just right!

La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Rioja Reserva 2012

Regular Price $25.99

Sale price $20.99

This is a beautiful wine made entirely of tempranillo. It has fruit, weight, acidity and structure and a quiet intensity. It spends two years in oak but carries that well. Neither over the top nor harshly alcoholic, it nonetheless shows abundant dark berry flavors. Ah, if only you could find wines this interesting and inexpensive from California!

Tenuta Pederzana ‘Gibe’,

Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro 2016

Regular price: $17.99

Sale Price: $13.99

Lambrusco has had a bad rep since the days of ‘Cella’, but really, the sweet, insipid lambruscos of the 70s are nothing like these fabulous wines. The local grape, grasparossa, is picked when fully ripe and then undergoes a short maceration at low temperature Resulting in a fresh and fruity wine full of tart cherry and wild berry. Slightly bubbly, it finishes crisply, inviting another sip. This wine is fresh, fun and delicious.
