As wine fads go, rosé has actually shown some staying power. Despite its numerous detractors and misguided opinions, (it’s a summer wine! It’s sweet! it’s must be very pale! It’s not a serious wine! Not really, not usually, not relevant, absurd) rosé has been the new, hot, exploding thing for about 20 years now. Can we please just drink and enjoy rosé because we like it?

Which brings me to this seriously, fun wine from the Basque region of Spain. Did I mention that it’s a rosé?

Let’s not send too much time on the technical stuff…the grapes (50% Hondarribi Beltza and 50% Hondarribi Zuri) that you’ve not heard of and won’t remember, the fermentation process (stainless steel for 20 days) or the soil (limestone), but rather on the wine. It’s delicious! Bright, tart cherry flavors with hints of minerality, a zingy, lime finish and a touch of effervescence. Its light in alcohol (10.5%) and its finished with a screw-cap. It’s refreshing and interesting. So, drink it, don’t analyze it!
