The Loire Valley is, without doubt, the most beautiful wine region in the world. The wide range of wines also makes it the most versatile wine region, as you’ll find dry, sweet, semi-sweet, still, sparkling, red, white and rose wines from a collection of grapes that are largely unknown elsewhere.

And, Chenin Blanc is grown there.

Chenin Blanc is one of the world’s greatest grapes, but is easily mishandled, both in the vineyard and the winery. It’s planted throughout the world but only in Loire and, perhaps, South Africa are the conditions and care such that the grape is made into truly stunning wines.

This is a wine of conviction, but not without grace. Its opens up with floral and honeysuckle notes which lead to Bosc pear flavors and a slightly waxy, apple peel finish. The crisp finish is illustrative of its shared heritage with Sauvignon Blanc and the round and full mid-palate shows off its genetic link to the red grape Trousseau. Don’t drink it too cold; that will mask the subtle flavors. It’ll pair well with, really, any cheese and will stand up to almost any food. (Don’t have it with a steak…it’ll ruin the wine. The steak will be fine.)
