It’s a thankless task, selecting the wine for Easter dinner. Cousin Bob thinks California Cabs are the bomb (they get him bombed, that is), Grandpa Max still believes that wine is for ‘the ladies’, and Uncle Sal and his date brought their ‘own’ (which is in a brown paper bag). The young cousins want beer and your daughter’s hipster boyfriend is extolling the virtues or rye, while curiously implying that he could really care less.

Meanwhile, you’re serving lamb and salmon!

Here’s your wine.

It’s not too big, not too light, enough fruit to convince Aunt Sylvia that its sweet (its not), and enough tannins to satisfy your snobbish brother-in-law (who, since he once changed planes at Charles De Gaulle, is an expert on all things French.) It’s bright enough to perk up the food, round and smooth enough that Grandma won’t think it’s ‘bitey’, and generally delicious.

Best of all, it tastes like Pinot Noir should taste; elegant, supple, polished rather than bombastic, overly alcoholic and viscous.

And anyone that tells you they don’t like it should not be invited back.
