This is not a new wine for us, we’ve been working with it for about 8 months or so, after waiting for the 2015 vintage to be released. Because it’s a big, dense red wine, we didn’t beat the drum for it through the spring and summer, but now that fall has arrived, this wine might be just the right wine for the season.
A blend of Syrah and old vine Grenach from the southwest of France, this wine seriously defies expectations. Its rich and intense but not out of balanced. Full of fruit and a relatively high (14.5%) alcohol level, yet the wine doesn’t feel over-wrought and tricked up. Bursting with ripe fruit flavors, it’s less sweet than many California Cabernets (much less sweet than the expensive ones!) And, it’s only $13.99!
Wine critics have been gushing about this wine for some time now, even bestowing ‘points’ (whatever those are) on it. To that I’ll say, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
