Just arrived…2016 Pagliarese Chianti Classico

2016 Pagliarese Chianti Classico

Castelnuovo Berardenga | Tuscany | Italy

On Sale for $17.99

Under the management of the Poggiali family of the neighboring Felsina winery, the historic Pagliarese estate has recently regained its place amongst the best properties in the Castelnuovo Berardenga subzone of Chianti Classico. This traditionally minded operation eschews both international grapes (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, etc.) as well as small oak barrels. Instead, for their Classico, Pagliarese relies on a house blend composed of 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo Nero, and 5% Mammolo aged for around one year in large oak casks prior to an additional six months refinement in bottle.

The 2016 Pagliarese Chianti Classico represents a textbook expression of the Sangiovese grape – garnet in color, brightly aromatic and imparted with a silky, red-fruited palate. More specifically, the wine features scents of leather and dusty earth alongside flavors of sour cherry and savory spice. Four years of bottle age has served to round the natural tannins of Sangiovese without compromising the valuable focus and tension provided by the grape’s firm acidity. Soft yet poised, the 2016 Pagliarese Classico is mature today and sure to become a favorite for fans of classically-styled Tuscan reds.
