One of the things we’ve always heard about wines from California is that it’s the ‘perfect place to grow grapes’. Now, that’s a great tagline. The only thing that would make it better is if it were true. A better place to grow grapes for wine would be eastern Washington State. Why? Its got volcanic, gravely soils, an arid climate, gets lots and lots of sun during the summer, then gets very cold in the winter (which helps keep the vines healthy) and has incredible natural water sources. Add those up and you’ve got the perfect place to grow grapes.

This wine is a steal at this price. Made mostly of Syrah (along with a bit of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and probably Mourvedre). its rich, fresh and juicy, loaded upfront with red berry and floral aromas, a jammy and spicy, fruit-filled mid-palate and plenty of vibrant acidity. It’s an oddity for sure as its clearly a New World wine but with Old World style and manners. Its carrying a far amount of alcohol(14.2%), but carries it well. It very well may be the the best wine made in the US for the money.
