Beaujolais Wine Tasting: September 2, 2017

Domaine Ruet ‘Les Bois’, Régnié 2015

Regular Price $22.99

Sale price $17.99

Wines from Régnié are generally the lightest and freshest of Cru Beaujolais and this is not exception. Bright cherry and cassis aromas and red raspberry flavors, bound by taut acidity. A lovely and delicious wine to start off your meal.

Domaine de la Tour du Bief, Moulin-a-Vent 2014

Regular Price $34.99

Sale price $27.99

Named for the iconic old windmill that overlooks the vineyards, this terroir is unique in the unusual composition of its soils: though it shares the decomposed granite common to the area, it also boasts high concentrations of manganese.  One theory speculates that this metal is mildly toxic to the vine, thus reducing yields and giving more concentrated, tannic wines. This wine supports the thesis…hints of smoke and spice, with dark berry and anise notes. Round and full, it finishes with violets and bright acidity.

Jean-Paul Thévenet ‘Vieilles Vignes’, Morgon 2014

Regular Price $37.99

Sale Price $29.99

Jean-Paul farms his small, five-hectare domaine in Morgon according to biodynamic and organic principles. The wine is made from two parcels of vines, one that’s 45 years old and the that’s 110 years old, and are aged for 6-8 months in old Burgundian barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. They are stunning Morgons, with bright red fruit, minerality, and floral undertones. And since there are only 2,000 cases produced, Thévenet is able to dedicate himself entirely to quality in every bottle.

Domaine de la Voûte des Crozes, Côte-de-Brouilly  2014

Regular Price $24.99

Sale Price $19.99

The Côte-de-Brouilly appellation sits on the hillsides of Mont Brouilly, a prehistoric volcano that left blue schist stones and volcanic rock along its slopes. These stones yield structured wines with pronounced minerality and great aging potential. This gorgeous cuvée is from a blend of five large old foudres. It shows a brilliant dark garnet hue and sports an aroma of fresh strawberries with a touch of cinnamon. On the palate it is rich, spicy, perfumed, and fine, loaded with red and black berry fruit, and it doesn’t disappoint on the long elegant finish.

Pierre-Marie Chermette ‘Pierreux’, Brouilly  2015

Regular Price $29.99

Sale price $23.99

The soil is made up of granitic scree from Mont Brouilly giving structure to this wine that is sound and pure on the palate. The name Pierreux is from the word “pierres” (stones), illustrating the make-up of the soil. Bursting with aromas of ripe black currants and crushed stones, the wine is light on its feet, and just lovely. The palate has well rounded tannins, with notes of red and black fruit, and a hint of liquorice on the finish.
