DeLoach Chardonnay, Russian River Valley, CA 2015
Regular Price $19.99
Sale price $14.99
DeLoach was one of the pioneering wineries in the mid-seventies in the Russian River Valley. Now owned by the Boisset family of Burgundy, the winery continues to produce high quality wines at reasonable prices. This wine shows off both its California roots as well as its French parentage. Bright, ripe flavors abound with oak as a seasoning rather than a flavoring, it’s easy, appley flavors and crisp finish makes it easy to enjoy.
Lundeen ‘Mon Pere’ Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, OR 2015
Regular Price $22.99
Sale Price $17.99
Oregon Pinot Noir has attracted its own cult-like following as the area has exploded with wineries over the past two decades. While there are many more wines available today, I not convinced that overall quality has improved. But, no matter, this little gem is a throwback to the days when Willamette Valley Pinot Noir was modest, distinct and inexpensive. Named to honor the 3rd generation owner/winemaker’s father, who planted the vineyards that supply the block of the juice for this wine, it’s crisp and refreshing, showing the signature Willamette juniper/evergreen bouquet immediately. Fresh ripe berry is balanced by cleansing acidity. Lovely and very satisfying.
Edmund St. John ‘Rocks & Gravel’ Dry Creek Valley, CA 2015
Regular Price $29.99
Sale Price $23.99
Edmunds St. John produces several wines each year, about several thousand cases total. They have no sales staff, no marketing team, no tasting room, and no vineyards to call their own; instead, Steve Edmunds has persuaded a small and dedicated group of grape farmers over the years to plant and manage vineyards to his specifications. The viticulture and winemaking is simple. Quality fruit from great sites and a minimalistic approach in the cellar. This is a terrific wine that pays homage to the wines of Provence in every sip. The aromas of fresh herbs and wild cherry waft from the glass; deeper, dryer cherry flavors backed with hints of red floral notes linger and supple tannins and focused acidity finish.
Steltzner Claret, Napa Valley, CA 2013
Regular Price $22.99
Sale Price $17.99
This is a classic Bordeaux blend with just enough Merlot and Petit Verdot to give the underlying Cabernet Sauvignon finesse and grace. Well balanced and food friendly, it’s a departure from typical over-the-top Napa Cab. Aromas of rich ripe fruit, leather, and stones followed by dark raspberry flavors, and hints of cedar box on the finish.
