The French Paradox Wines Presents: Summer Beer Tasting vol. 1 – Friday, July 21st – 4-7pm
Brooklyn Summer Ale, Brooklyn , NY 5.0% ABV
The people at Brooklyn Brewery call this a ‘sunny ale’, it’s really a ‘golden ale’ or what the English used to call a ‘luncheon ale’, meaning it was relatively light in body and low in alcohol. It’s refreshing and easy to enjoy, and would definitely help beat the heat.
Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc, Strasbourg, FR 5.0% ABV
This is a witbier, with hints of orange and coriander. Its light, a bit sweet yet refreshing as its crisp finish cleans up the fruity sweetness nicely. If you like wheat beers, you’ll like this one. But it’s unlikely to change your mind if wheat beers aren’t your thing.
Dogfish Head Flesh & Blood IPA, Milton, DE 7.5% ABV
Brewed with mouth-puckering lemon flesh, tangy orange peel and blood orange juice, Flesh & Blood balances the hoppy characteristics of an American IPA with the explosive zesty fruitiness and subtle drying tartness of citrus to deliver a delightfully rich brew that still quenches your thirst. At 7.5% ABV, this is a sessionable beer for Dogfish Head.
Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo, Chico, CA & Mills River, NC 6.7% ABV
The knock on IPAs are that they are often too heavy and bitter. And although they dominate the beer market, that reputation makes them less enticing during the summer. Enter the Tropical Torpedo, which shows mango, citrus and pineapple flavors to tamp down the bitterness and elevate the overall weight. There’s a refreshing hint of grapefruit in the middle of it all. After this, who would ever want a Corona?
Evolution No. 3, Salisbury, MD 6.8% ABV
This bronzed brew struts down the boardwalk bringing citrus & pine & sweet orange & characteristic bitterness & tart grapefruit & malt…yeah, it’s’ a bit busy. Reminds me of the boys from Philly at Seaside, trying just a bit to hard to be cool. Drink this when the sun goes down…
Full Tilt Hops the Cat, Baltimore, MD 7.4% ABV
This is a solid, makes-no-bones-about-it American style IPA, that pretty much hits you square in the mouth. Big, hoppy and citrusy flavors that don’t back down, its loud and brassy, but not without charm. This one’s for the beach at night, when the wind is up a bit and you’re glad that you brought a sweatshirt…
