Teeling Small Batch Irish Whiskey
92 proof
Dublin, Ireland
Regular Price $37.99
Sale price $34.99
An interesting and innovative Irish whiskey, first aged in used bourbon casks then finished in old rum casks, which gives it a slightly sweet, dried fruit turn on both the nose and tongue.
The Glenrothes 2001 Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whiskey
86 proof
Speyside, Scotland
Regular Price $62.99
Sale price $59.99
This whisky, distilled in 2001 and bottled in 2012 (which makes this an 11 year old whisky, of course) is aged in four different barrels. Two were ex-sherry casks, one a first fill Spanish oak and the other a first fill American oak. The other two are refill casks that previously contained Sherry and Bourbon, respectively. (First fill means that whisky has not been aged in the barrel prior to creating this whisky and refill means that it has been used to age whisky.) Brown sugar and cinnamon followed by caramel and vanilla. Lean and a touch fruity, balanced and smooth
Knob Creek Twice Barrelled Kentucky Straight Rye
100 proof
Clermont, Kentucky
Regular Price $45.99
Sale price $41.99
Twice Barreled Rye is pretty self explanatory: it’s the traditional Knob Creek rye whiskey, finished in additional, new, level four “alligator” charred oak barrels for a second time. It’s bottled at 100 proof; the second barrel adds sweetness and warm spice notes. It’s also taking away more of those harsh rye spice notes from the grain, which gives this whiskey a significantly more mellow profile than you’d expect
Baker’s 7 year old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
107 proof
Clermont, Kentucky
Regular Price $55.99
Sale price $51.99
Sweet and oaky, this dangerously sippable bourbon is a product of Jim Beam’s experience and know-how (the whiskey is named for Jim Beam’s grand-nephew, Baker Beam). More vanilla than caramel, with plenty of smoke from the oak.
Rock Town Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon Whiskey
112.92 proof
Little Rock, Arkansas
Regular Price $65.99
Sale price $59.99
This is the first distillery in Arkansas since prohibition and they are impressing some folks in the whiskey world. This is youngish (aged 21 months) but aged in small barrels so the the wood is apparent on both the nose and mouth. Cask strength, so there is a bit of a burn. A touch of water helps release some aromatics…cinnamon, ginger and dried cherry perhaps.
Lagavulin 8 year old Islay Single Malt Scotch
Port Ellen, Scotland
96 proof
Regular Price $59.99
Sale price $49.99
This is HiDef whisky – pure, clearly defined, unadorned, with a laser-like intensity. Despite its relatively high proof, it’s not particularly hot, and the balance between smoke and sweetness is very inviting. It’s the essential core of what makes Lagavulin Lagavulin.
