Wine writers and the people that talk about wines on the radio seem to think that wines from Bordeaux are big, luscious, viscous beasts that cost thousands of dollars but are at the apex of the wine pyramid.
Of course, as with most things, they are wrong.
This wine is far more typical of Bordeaux than the wines that they pretend to own. It’s moderate; in body, in flavor and in price. Made primarily of the most widely planted grape in Bordeaux, Merlot, its plush and full, yet balanced with taut tannins and hints of green vegetable and savory herbs, it’s a great food wine that is probably a bit too acidic to enjoy as a cocktail. But, really, great wines are made for the table, especially great, understated Bordeaux.
