Wine Tasting: July 14, 2017 | 1pm-7pm | The French Paradox Wines – Stevenson Village
Château de la Ragotière Muscadet Sèvre et Maine, Vieilles Vignes 2015
100% Melon de Bourgogne, this wine is richer than most Muscadets, with notes of lemon and refreshing salinity. It closes with lively acidity and will pair beautifully with scallops and other shellfish.
Mader Pinot Blanc, Alsace 2016
Pinot Blanc is the under-appreciated sibling of Alsatian wines, constantly overshadowed by its more expressive brethren. Fully flavored, with floral aromas followed by pear & apple hints, it’s creamy texture belies its crisp finish.
Thevenet et Fils Saint-Véran, Clos de l’Ermitage Saint Claude Vieilles Vignes 2015
This is an amazing Chardonnay…produced from 70+ year old vines, this small production (1000 cases annually) spends no time in oak, yet exhibits richness and flavors more typical to barrel aged chardonnay. Firm, full and delicious.
Commanderie de Peyrassol, Côtes de Provence Rosé 2016
This is a classic Provencal rosé, with Cinsault, Syrah and Grenache creating a balanced blend of fresh berry flavors, nicely sharpened with a touch of Mourvèdre. Crisp and nicely minerally, it’s a perfect aperitif but with enough weight to pair with grilled meats or fish.
Domaine de Vissoux, Cuvée Traditionnelle Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes 2015
So, you think you don’t like Beaujolais? This is old school Beaujolais…lively, fresh and intense. It tastes like the grape…fruity, sweet & tart all at the same time. Seamless, and vivacious, this wine sings with anything off the grill, sausage, vegetables and camembert.
Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup, Tour de Pierres 2014
This blend of 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, and 10% Mourvèdre is a beautiful example of the quality and value found in the Languedoc. White pepper, blackberry and anise are the recurring themes throughout, with balancing tannins to lend structure and support. A fabulous wine for the money.
