A Rare Champagne of Style and Substance: 2009 Pol Roger Brut

Champagne represents a category of wine produced from difficult conditions. The region is relatively cold and experiences more than its fair share of clouds and rain. The vast majority of Champagne is bottled as non-vintage, allowing the producer to blend from disparate harvests to ultimately create a house style which provides consistency and reliability. In the most interesting years, the venerable houses of Champagne release a vintage bottling, which poses a unique dilemma or opportunity, depending on the point of view of the producer. Should the vintage bottling showcase the style of the house or should it highlight the unique traits of the growing season?

The latest vintage release from Pol Roger marries the house’s elegant, measured style with the impactful, fruit-driven nature of the warm 2009 vintage. The fruit for this cuvee is sourced from 20 separate plots spread across the Champagne region and consists of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. While dense and powerful, the 2009 manages to display the delicate red berry flavors of Pinot Noir and the chalky, wet stone tones of Chardonnay. Toasty, dough-like aromas lead to a broad, red fruited palate with a salty, flinty note culminating in a long, citric finish which serves to keep the wine bright and refreshing.

This is a wine to consider and savor with complimentary company and cuisine. The 2009 Pol Roger Brut Vintage offers equal parts style and substance owing its personality to not only the meticulous standards of the house, but also the depth and concentration of the growing season. Easy to appreciate today, this bottling will also reward a few years in the cellar and offers incredible value @ $79.99 per bottle.

We have only 120 bottles in stock, please let me know of your interest as soon as possible!
